Hypertherm Powermax33 XP (PMX33): What Irish Metalworkers Need to Know!
Hypertherm is the most specified plasma brand in professional fabrication worldwide. When metalworkers, fabricators, and maintenance engineers ask for a plasma cutter by name, it is Hypertherm Powermax they ask for. That reputation has been earned over five decades of engineering focus — and the newest addition to the Powermax family, the Powermax33 XP (PMX33), continues that tradition. KWS is hosting the official launch of the Powermax33 XP at our Portlaoise depot on Thursday 28 May 2026. Here is everything you need to know.
Who are Hypertherm?
Hypertherm was founded in West Lebanon, New Hampshire, USA, in 1968. The company essentially invented modern plasma cutting as a commercial technology and has led the industry ever since. Today Hypertherm operates globally, employs over 2,000 people, and holds hundreds of patents in plasma cutting, laser cutting, and waterjet systems. Their Powermax line is the benchmark against which all other portable plasma cutting systems are measured. Every Powermax system is engineered and assembled in the USA and backed by the most comprehensive warranty in the industry — a 6-year warranty that no competitor matches.
What is the Powermax33 XP (PMX33)?
The Powermax33 XP is the newest addition to the Hypertherm Powermax family, launching in Ireland for the first time in May 2026. It is designed for fabricators, contractors, and agricultural operators who need one machine to handle both heavy plate cutting and precision thin-metal work. Key verified specifications:
- Output: 33 amps — one of the most powerful portable plasma systems in its class
- Weight: 9.5 kg with torch — genuinely portable for on-site and workshop use
- Cut capacity: recommended clean cut 13mm at 400mm/min — maximum severance 20mm (¾") on mild steel, stainless, and aluminium
- Consumables included as standard: standard nozzle, electrode, FineCut® nozzle, and FineCut® deflector — both cutting modes ready from the box
- Dual-Voltage™: 120V or 240V (requires dedicated 20A circuit) — a standard 13A domestic plug is not suitable
- HyAccess™ gouging consumables available — cuts, gouges, and marks in one system
- 6-year warranty — CE certified for use in Ireland and Europe. Built and assembled in the USA.
Who is the Powermax33 XP for?
The Powermax33 XP is built for professional metalworkers who need a portable, versatile plasma system that handles a range of cutting and gouging tasks without compromise. It is the right choice for fabrication workshops, structural steel contractors, agricultural maintenance, automotive bodyshops, construction sites, and any application where you need a system that cuts clean on thick material and also handles precision thin-metal work in the same machine. The dual voltage capability makes it equally at home in the workshop or on site.

Hypertherm Powermax33 XP FAQs
What thickness can the Powermax33 XP cut?
Recommended clean-cut capacity is 13mm at 400mm/min. Maximum severance capacity is 20mm. For precision thin-metal work, switch to the included FineCut® consumables for detailed, low-distortion cuts on sheet metal.
Will the Powermax33 XP run from a standard Irish socket?
No. The Powermax33 XP requires a dedicated 15A circuit at 120V, or a dedicated 20A circuit at 240V. A standard 13A domestic plug is not suitable. It is designed for workshop, depot, or on-site use where a dedicated supply is available. Speak to our team at KWS if you have questions about supply requirements.
Does the Powermax33 XP include FineCut consumables?
Yes. The standard system includes one standard nozzle, one electrode, one FineCut® nozzle, and one FineCut® deflector. Both cutting modes — heavy-plate and precision thin-metal — are ready from the box without additional consumable purchase.
How does the Powermax33 XP compare to the Powermax30 AIR?
The Powermax33 XP delivers higher output (33A vs 30A), greater cut capacity, and gouging capability via HyAccess™ consumables. The Powermax30 AIR has a built-in air compressor for maximum portability — it requires no external air supply, which makes it ideal for remote on-site work. For workshop or depot use where an air supply is available, the Powermax33 XP is the stronger performer. For field use with no air supply, the 30 AIR has the portability advantage.
